The Rt. Rev. John T. Walker was the first African-American bishop in the Episcopal Diocese of Washington. Renowned for his strong outreach ministry, Bishop Walker challenged the diocesan leadership to take a more active role in serving the community. One of the ways in which Bishop Walker worked to do that stemmed from his deep commitment to children, families and education.
