BWS 2020-21 Responsive Distance Learning Plan

Bishop Walker School 2020-21 Responsive Distance Learning Plan: Thank You for Supporting Our Scholars!

Have Courage my soul and let us journey on
For the night is dark, and I am far from home.
Thanks be to God, the morning light appears.
The storm is passing over,
The storm is passing over,
The storm is passing over, Hallelujah!

Dear Friends of BWS,

After months of gathering information, keeping up with changing circumstances, and having many deliberations, the Bishop Walker School has completed our Fall Reopen plan, which you can download HERE. The above lines are from the song "The Storm is Passing Over," a traditional hymn from the early 1900s that re-emerged as a gospel song in the mid-1970s. It was prevalent in my childhood growing up in the Black Catholic traditions of New Orleans, and it has become my personal anthem as we start the 2020-21 academic year, which began on Tuesday, September 8, 2020.

We are so thankful for all of the time, treasure, and talent that you have poured into our school village. Because of that, we have had a smooth start to the school year, and we are so enthusiastic, energized, and excited about the way this year is going to shape and strengthen the Bishop Walker School. Despite the distance, our responsive distance learning program has been fed by a summer of effort by our teachers and our academic leadership. We are hopeful that you will continue to support our efforts to keep our scholars engaged, our families supported, and our school thriving. If you have questions about how you can help our scholars and their families during Responsive Distance Learning, please reach out to Assistant Head of School for Development David Shepard at God bless you and your families as we navigate the storm of COVID-19 together; it will pass us over soon.

Peace and blessings,

Michael O. Molina
