BWS Announces New Principal Hire!

BWS Announces New Principal
Dear BWS Community,

I am delighted to announce the appointment of Stephanie Borges Folarin as Principal of the Bishop Walker School.

Mrs. Folarin was selected after a process that included interviews with representative members of the faculty and staff, the board of the BWS Parent Association and select members of our Governing Board's education committee.

During the search process, I spoke with individuals who have worked closely with Stephanie and know her well. Her colleagues spoke with confidence and respect for her leadership, her consistently positive attitude, effectiveness in connecting with the entire school community, and her focus on meeting goals in a collaborative way. They talked about her commitment to mentoring faculty, her openness to feedback, willingness to learn, and her commitment to care for all students.

Stephanie's thirteen plus years of professional experience in education include having served as a learning specialist at The Maret School in Washington, DC and Director of Academic and Student Support at Burgundy Farm Country Day School in Alexandria, VA. She most recently served in leadership positions at the Sheridan School in Washington, DC, where she began her tenure as Director of Curriculum and Instruction and concluded her time as Head of Lower School.

Mrs. Folarin earned a degree in African Studies from Bates College and holds a master's degree in Special Education from John Hopkins University. She has lectured or presented on a range of topics including supporting students of color with learning disabilities and infusing writing throughout the curriculum.

Stephanie is a native of Bridgeport, Connecticut. She and her husband Tope Folarin are the proud parents of 19 moth-old Funmi.

Mrs. Folarin's first day at the Bishop Walker School will be Monday, July 23rd. Please join me in congratulating her on her new role and warmly welcoming her to our special community.
