BWS Hires New Director of Outplacement

BWS Hires New Director of Outplacement
Dear BWS Village,

I am delighted to announce the appointment of Mr. Brian K. Harris II as Director of Outplacement and Graduate Support for the Bishop John T. Walker School for Boys.

Mr. Harris’ thirteen plus years of professional experience in education include having served as an Elementary School Teacher and Director of Arts and Outplacement at City Arts and Prep in Washington DC. In this role, he was responsible for creating a rigorous Arts program and in his tenure sent over 100 students to private, public, and charter high schools in the District. He also developed an Alumni Association which created a pipeline between current students and graduates so that they were able to continue their training in the Arts.

Mr. Harris is also the Founder and Artistic Director of Sons of Freedom Dance Institute, an organization dedicated to nurturing character, increasing social awareness, and building the spiritual foundation for boys of color through classical and contemporary styles of dance and movement. He most recently piloted a class in a DC Public School teaching cultural diversity and appreciation.

Mr. Harris earned a bachelor’s degree in Print Journalism from Hampton University and holds a master’s degree in Divinity with an emphasis in Christian Education from The Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Ministry with an emphasis in Public Engagement from Wesley Theological Seminary. Mr. Harris’ doctoral research explores the intersection of spirituality, social, and emotional development of black males through the lenses of social justice and equity-centered community design. As if this weren’t enough, Mr. Harris is also the author of Freedom’s Design: 20 Days of Empowering Black Kings and a children’s book, I am My History.

Mr. Harris is a native of Pittsburgh, PA and is the proud father of 18-year-old Nathan, who will be starting his first year of college in the Fall.

Please join me in congratulating Mr. Harris on his new role and warmly welcoming him to our school village

Sincerely,

Stephanie Borges Folarin
Principal
